The joy of finding new music - Slacker Radio.

Usually to find new music I either look for new albums or read some mp3 blogs.  Other times I listen to Internet radio, which provides different stations for certain genre's of music.  Most people use Pandora, which is also available on iPhone. Recently however I've switched over to Slacker Radio, which I've also been using on my iPhone.  It offers basically the same features as Pandora, but I find that the stations on Slacker are much better than Pandora.  You can even upgrade to Slacker Plus which allows you to skip as many tracks as you like without getting held up by their 6 max skip song policy (although you can easily just change stations).  Also, you can do song requests, but I don't know how that holds up as I don't use Slacker Plus.  But for all of you using Pandora, check out Slacker Radio.  I think you'll make the switch.

Here's 3 Songs I found on the Indie Station. Check em out!

P.S. Oh and for all of you trying to find mp3's of music without using Limewire, Check out skreemR. I've been using it to download individual mp3's and it's been working great.

Nightcrawlers Remix/Daft Punk/Best I've Ever Had Video

I was trying out my new iPhone 3GS that I just got last week while I was riding in my friends car, and hearing Pitbull's single "hotel room", I opened Shazam and attempted to tag it.  Instead of getting Pitbull as a result, I got Nightcrawlers - Push the Feeling On, which is actually the synthe sample from Hotel Room.  So I looked it up. and here it is.

But I don't really like the original, so here's a remix of it. Much Better!

and because I feel like it, some smooth Daft Punk.

and Lastly, for all you people still in love with "Best I Ever Had", you would expect the music video to be great as well. well too bad it SUCKS!

I'm A Deckhead: Nick Thayer

Nick Thayer

Distorted noise is finally loosing its great influence throughout the Sydney scene, more and more people are becoming disgruntled with the loud noises, often waking up with their ears ringing from the night before, this also will help clubs who experience a lot of problems with the thousand of munted kids who only seem to enjoy this while fucked up.

For the past year the Melbourne scene has been maturing with its appreciation for music, moving away from the distorted noise and bangers that used to plague most clubs, its now moving to a broader range of genres. I've heard about everything from great indie parties, to bars filled with nu disco music and of course Baltimore club music dominating underground clubs, as well as your standard fidget and electro sounds. Whenever international acts are flown into Melbourne the names Scatterblog and The Late Show are always affiliated with the crazy parties, and most of the most well known djs seem to be writers for both of these blogs, they also have a tendency to producer some killer tracks.

I've been sent through a killer collaboration by The Late Show's Nick Thayer and Scatterblogs own Mat Cant, its a big bassline rave version of Fatman Scoop's Be Faithful. After hearing this track, I decided it would be best to go hunt down some more of Nick Thayer's remixes and edits, his tracks have great versatility from big basslines, to club friendly hip hop edits and even the occasional mellow disco track, all coming back to a hip hop flavor throughout them.

Nick Thayer & Mat Cant - Pick It Up
Alt. Link

Nick Thayer - Fabricated

Joe Bataan - Rap-O Clap-O (Nick Thayer Edit)

In more Nick Thayer news he just had a tune released on Southern Fried called 'Rockin It' with Black Noise, and new single 'The Morning Sun' just about to be released on Passenger complete with Two Fresh Rmx. Also keep up to date with The Late Show blog for all his latest remixes, edits and mixtapes

This guy is legit. "Pick It Up" has that hip-hop electronica feel to it, while "Rap-O Clap-O" has that more melow vibe. Check them out.

I'm switching over to posterous.

So if you're still reading this, change bookmarks or don't change them at all...but all new posts here will be directed straight from my posterous. It's just that much easier to post, especially new songs (and so you can download them easier also!) It's a win-win situation.

My new Desktop

Today, I decided to customize my OSX desktop.  I must've spent hours troubleshooting all the different programs that I used, deleting and replacing files, and a whole lot of internet surfing.  However I'm proud to have finally completed it, and until I get sick of it, it'll be my desktop for awhile.

Oh and if your curious, the items in my dock (bottom right) are (from top to bottom): Finder, iPhoto, Adium, Safari, iTunes, MS Word, and Transimission, with the traditional Downloads and Documents folders.  Hope you all like it!

Driving

After coming home from the PI, I drove for the first time yesterday (actually, about 3 hours after I landed).  I know most people don't say this often, but I felt like I had just got my license and it felt GREAT to drive my car again.  Especially since in the philippines all you get is traffic 24/7.  When I go off to NY, I don't know how I'll survive without my car.

Oh, and I'm also going to be trying out this posterous thing again.  Maybe I'll make the switch soon.

and because I went to another rave yesterday, take a listen to this remix of Boom Boom Pow (original by bep, get the album if you havent!)

Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D.

I can't find any mp3's of this album except "boom boom pow"...that are DRM-free...but I just got this album and I gotta say...there are some really catchy songs on it.  For all'yall, listen to "I Gotta Feeling" (there newest single), "Alive", and "Meet Me Halfway".  There are some good party songs on this album...and I especially like the name of the album.  THE E.N.D.  The Energy Never Dies.

Dreams

I've started to read my brother's tumblr lately, and he last blogged about dreams. Weird how both of us are having weird dreams...because I have also. You know how there's that period of time when you don't have any dreams so you want to dream but you don't dream... yeah. But now I'm having dreams back and forth, its crazy. Like every night. However, mine are a bit different from my brothers' because mine are like NIGHTMARES. Scary shit thats happening in my dreams. I wake up scared as shit because I think this stuff is real. I'll share one right now...

I was in my house just chillin with my friend Matt.... we were eating Ritz bitz crackers or something but we were just sittin around doing nothing. Then all of a sudden the doorbell rang and I got up and opened it. I think I was expecting the gaming mice that Alex and I ordered, but no. It was the manager of this store that I applied to for a job. He was HUGE and he just walked in and started invading my fridge. When I came back around to see what the hell his problem was, he pulled a huge knife on me. For some reason Matt had a knife also, and then they were just holding it up in the air like they were about to stab each other but they haven't yet. I saw my pocket knife carabiner on the countertop but it was across the other side (closest to the big huge guy) so I couldn't get it. Then all of a sudden the guy tried to slash Matt and we both did this weird ass karate move from UFC and he was on the ground. I looked at my hands and they were all bleeding for some reason. I grabbed my pocket knife carabiner and started stabbing him all over the place... but he wouldn't die. No matter where i shanked him, he kept coming back to life. So with all my might I hit his head with my fist and then he finally sat there. He was still conscious, but he wasn't doing anything, so I presumed he was dead. Then we proceded to all pray the rosary... wtf?!?! I woke up after that.

For all you reading this, don't think that this really means anything serious... Like my bro said, I don't think this applies to my life at all, except for the real life references (the manager guy, the gaming mice..) But its still scary nonetheless. I don't have a song to post right now, but I'll look through my iTunes and see if I can find something spooky.

Esperanza Spalding - I Know You Know

Esperanza Spalding - I Know You Know

I was chillin with the band when Esperanza Spalding came on. I immediately got hooked on the bass lines and the jazzy vocals. Her stuff really shows the importance of the bass line and the influence it puts forth. Much respect to all bassists! This girl is only 24 and she attended Berklee College of Music... and now she teaches there being one of the yougest professors in the school history. Talk about prodigy. If you like this I highly suggest grabbing her 2 albums, Junjo and Esperanza.

Speaking of prodigies, check this 18 yr old Japanese guy out. Beatboxing has come a long way. His scratching is crazy! "I want to be the beat-ti-ta-box batwel wiyood card!"

Starfucker - Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second

Starfucker again? Sorry. But the music is too good to resist! Again, an interesting album cover... I wonder who designed it. This one is a little less popish than the other two.... a bit more mellow (mellows!). Give it a listen! Oh, and for all you 21+ people...they will be playing at Bottom of the Hill on June 23rd. In other news,

It's time to hang them up...

Starfucker - Boy Toy/Medicine

Starfucker - Boy Toy (mp3)
Sarfucker - Medicine (mp3)
Buy at iTunes Music Store

Poppy and catchy dance/electronic music. Starfucker. How the heck did these guys come up with that name? And tell me why the album art looks very similar to the Faunts album? Maybe I have a thing for multi-colored album art... Anyway, two songs for you to download today, both are catchy and I recommend giving a listen to both. Here's a description of them from IODA that is way to long to post.

In other news, 1 Week of AP's then I'm pretty much done with school. Then prom. Then party. Maybe while listening to starfucker in the car. Then summer...finally! Oh, and Happy Mother's Day today to all the Moms, grandmothers, godmothers, soon to be mothers, etc.

Faunts - Feel.Love.Thinking.Of

from welikeit.indie, "At once symphonic and sprawling; ambient, yet driving, Feel.Love.Thinking.Of. is the culmination of a year of touring, recording, and meticulous exploration of the band’s transcendent imagination. With its effervescent guitars, mathematic loops and synthesizers, surging drums, and seemingly nomadic bass lines, this album is a beautiful expression of Faunts’ painstaking attention to instrumentation and arrangement. I think it’s the best album yet from these supremely talented Canadians & I’m not the only one, the band itself stated: “It is definitely our most concise and best work to date“. "

and yes, it is very good. The album came out February 17th, so if you like what you hear go pick it up. (or, just ask me!)

The video is cool also. Probably because I actually know about all these color tests through psych class. And the girl is cute.

Jamie Cullum - I Want To Be A Popstar

"I Want To Be A Popstar" (mp3)
from "Pointless Nostalgic"
(Candid Productions)
Buy at iTunes Music Store

Known for being a remarkable jazz artist at only 25 years old, Jamie Cullum has collaborated with many artists, including hip-hop artists Handsome Boy Modeling School and Pharrel. He's definitely got some catchy vocals and great runs. Can't explain it any better than this quote: "Cullum's mellifluous tone, clarity of diction, fluid relationship with the pulse and proclivity for taking chances - coupled with his exciting pianism - clearly mark him out as a young artist with immense potential." - Jazzwise, UK

After listening to the smooth jazz, another video...

Blogger DMCA notifications...

Wowwww seriously google. Another post taken down (Digital Millennium Copyright Act), this one for my post of Silversun Pickup's Panic Switch. Thinking of maybe switching to a tumblr... or some other blog site... one where I won't have to deal with this stupid copyright stuff. If anyone has any ideas feel free to contact me.

Other than that, more music to come. Got a whole bunch of CD's from the library, so sit tight.

P.S. Crazy Boston vs. Bulls game today. Ray Allen with 51 points but Boston ending up losing it by 1 in the end. I got Boston winning it at home for game 7.

and so, I leave you with youtube videos.

This Will Destroy You - The World Is Our _____

"The World Is Our ___" (mp3)
from "Young Mountain"
(Magic Bullet)

Sometimes, you don't need lyrics to express your music. I believe in the idea that you can move people and your audience just through music and your own emotions... although words and lyrics do help! (I sound like I'm writing an essay...) This Will Destroy You is one of those bands, reminding me of another post-rock instrumental band, Explosions in the Sky. Definitely give it a listen if you liked the music from Friday Night Lights.

George Benson - Breezin'

Download now or listen on posterous
670C86FA3C26E821.m4a (5419 KB)

Ok, first attempt at doing this posterous thing. Thanks to my bro's friend JJ for the idea. It seems real cool. His blog is here. It's currently 2:15 AM and I should be sleeping but this seems too legit. Anyway, hopefully some George Benson should show up and it'll play it in a small little player. I'm out to sleep. Serra Top 7 Saturday!

Update: Ok, it didn't quite work out the way I wanted it to. First, the song I uploaded takes the name of the file instead of the id3 tag on the .m4a (i got it through Mojo). Also, it leaves me with this ugly box that says "download now or listen on posterous". When you go to my posterous, the same post is shown but now theres a cool little listening box... but for some reason it doesnt show up on the Blogger. Also it seems that there's no way to edit the listeing player html so that the player is black to match my blog. Lastly, the twitter post links to my posterous, instead of my blogger, which is what I want it to do. Everything else seemed fine. All in all, a good effort by posterous, hopefully they could fine tune the system a bit more.

Corrientes - Future Day

Corrientes - Future Day

I literally just found this artist about 5 minutes ago, listened to this one song, and I am now sitting here writing this. Thanks to jamendo for supplying the music. The link is to the full album titled Motion, Mottos, Munity. If I made a playlist of all the songs to listen to on a sunny day, I would probably put all these songs on it. So sooooothing. My favorite was "Future Day" so be sure to give that a listen. "NY Sidewalk" was a good one also. Heck, they're all good! Just sit back, close your eyes, and listen to the music...

Spring break is almost over. I haven't done much, other than sit on the computer and blog about random crap, read other people's blogs, twitter (follow me!), go on facebook, eat, workout, go to practice at 10am, sit around and watch TV, etc. I need to get started on that spring break homework...

Incubus leaves SF Fans with "Black Hearts"

So when I heard that Incubus will be releasing a new album and doing a summer tour, I got excited. My friend and I immediately signed up for more information and pre-ordered the album, giving us access to pre-sale of both summer tour tickets and their newest single, Black Heart Inertia. Today after much anticipation, I finally got an e-mail saying that pre-sale with be avaliable tomorrow for their tour date in SF. And what is the venue? Outside Lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park. Now believe me, I would love to see the many other artists playing there, but the price is around $200 for a 3 day ticket, and I don't feel like shelling out that cash when I ultimately just want to see Incubus, which will probably only receive small playing time anyway. So Incubus, if you happen to be reading this...please do something for your fans here in SF!

Cas One - Flashbacks (feat. Brother Ali)

Once again taking credit from welikeit.indie, a change from some alternative music into the hip-hop world. This guy reminds me alot of Atmosphere... hopefully he gets some attention for his music. Give it a listen if you like real hip-hop.

In other news, I got approved to access IODAPromonet! Definitely excited to find new music and post it all for of you to hear. Updates soon to come...once I get my login information.. which I patiently await..

Phoenix - If I Ever Feel Better

Phoenix - If I Ever Feel Better (right click, save as)

I'm always a sucker for mellow, chill, but still upbeat music. Thanks to my friend David (also known as BEAST!) for this song. I don't know much about the band other than that they're French... go wiki them if you want.

College Update...

Went this past weekend to NYU and checked out the place. After some big thinking and alot of talking with the parentals...

Hello New York!

Trust me, the decision wasn't an easy one. It was between UCSC (friken california budget cuts..) or NYU. Big difference. But it all came down to what I wanted to do in the future, and I feel that by going to NY I'll have such a great opportunity to do what I love. I know it'll be tough, but I'm determined to stick with it. Anyway...who wants to teach me some piano basics?

Slum Village - Fall in Love

Slum Village - Fall in Love

Time to change it up a bit. Here's some real hip-hop for you heads, not any of that gangsta rap bullshit. Although Slum Village is a mainly more popular group from Detroit, (known for their hit Selfish with Kanye West & John Legend), they still bring out some good hip-hop. They've influenced other hip-hop artists also, such as The Platinum Piped Pipers and Dwele.

I haven't had much time to update this, but I'll try to update it at least once a week. I'll be going to NY for the weekend to visit NYU...definitely excited!

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

So finally I've gotten the chance to watch the movie I've heard so much about:
Donnie Darko.

I currently have no clue whats going on (and if you watch it I'm sure you wouldn't either), but the soundtrack is pure genius. Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division is a popular one, and it brings that 80s vibe with the song. If you haven't heard it yet or watched the movie go do it, then we can discuss what the heck is happening.

and for the rest of you...CHUT UP!

Senses Fail - Garden State

Ok, I don't have much time because I got hella friken homework to do and I really shouldn't be blogging. But theres a senses fail concert on march 30th and I'm still wondering if I want to go or not... so I got their new album and its a different sound from their older albums, but still catchy and "senses fail like?" Have a listen!

College Update: I will possibly visit NYU spring break! Still waiting on UCI and USC though.

Norah Jones - What Am I To You?

Norah Jones - What Am I To You?

As I sit and wait for college acceptance letters, I lay back and just try to relax. I recently went back to the SSF library to exchange my CDs for a new batch. I picked up this Norah Jones album, titled Feels Like Home, after hearing her song and album, Come Away With Me. This song brings a slight country/folk vibe along with it, but its still mellow and super chill to listen to after a long day.

P.S. Speaking of college acceptances, I've so far gotten into USF, Cal Poly Pomona, UCSC, and....

NYU!

Today I was surprised with a letter from NYU's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. I had to make and send an audtion tape and take a phone interview in order to apply to the Music Technology department. If I don't get into USC, then I will highly consider going here and following the dream!
